ANNUAL ASIAN AND COMMUNITY LANGUAGES CONFERENCE 2006

Click here to see the programme for the event

We think it was a very successful day:  speakers who brought us up-to-date with systems of accreditation and guides for creating schemes of work, and colleagues shared some great ideas for engaging pupils in their learning, through structured activities, interesting content and 'hands-on' methods.

Here are some photos of the event.  If anyone would like a copy of any of the photos, either right click and save the photo or email Helen for a higher definition version, telling her which photo it is (e.g. 1st column, 3rd row).

ANNUAL ASIAN AND COMMUNITY LANGUAGES CONFERENCE

Saturday, 4th March 2006, 10.00am to 3.30pm

Venue: Archbishop Lanfranc School, Mitcham Road, Croydon, CR9 3AS

This conference will provide answers to many questions and problems that community languages teachers face day to day as they often work in isolation with pupils whose needs are varied. The whole day wil be devoted to work on a new series of Curriculum Guides for Community Languages which will provide a flexible framework to assist the teachers in the design and delivery of courses in both mainstream and complementary sectors.

The Curriculum Guides will draw on recent policy developments in language teaching including the Key Stage 2 and 3 strategies, and will be linked to the new Languages Ladder. The detailed framework will map a clear linguistic progression across topics in the Levels and suggest a wide variety of activities with intercultural and creative element. All Asian and any other language with non-Roman script can benefit from the lively workshops on the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Punjabi, Tamil and Urdu. The participants would be invited to make comments and suggestions.
