Free Chinese Workshop , Monday 31st October 2005, 10.15am - 4.00pm

The Ashcombe School, Dorking, Surrey has been offering free workshops on the use of ICT in the teaching of MFL each half term for the past five years. The first Chinese workshop which took place last term went really well ... we had very positive evaluations ... people seemed to really welcome the opportunity to share ideas and get to know others in similar positions.

We now invite you to our second Chinese workshop which will have the same content as the first one.

If you teach in a school that offers or is thinking about offering Mandarin Chinese at any level, this workshop will enable you to consider teaching strategies and curriculum planning, how to create and sustain international links, ways of promoting Mandarin Chinese across the whole school and sharing ideas with other colleagues.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

12 .30 -1.10 Buffet lunch & discussion

1.10 - 1.30 Annual Summer Study Programme in China. Students and

teachers who have taken part to talk about their experiences.

1.30- 2.50 Teaching Chinese: examples of teaching resources and

approaches. Pupils taking Chinese will demonstrate ICT resources. Delegates will have time for a hands-on session in the multimedia room

and opportunities to look at a range of textbooks and ICT resources

2.50 - 3.00 Tea break

3.00 - 3.45 English Curriculum Project for Year 8 to study Chinese

literature in translation: Presentation by English teacher involved in

China project and opportunities to look at pupils' work

3.45 - 4pm Final questions, evaluation of day and close
