We thank Joe Dale for co-ordinating the TiLT (Technology in Language Teaching) series of webinars, bringing together teachers who are interested in developing their use of technology in their teaching. As well as enhancing our skills, we also get to meet other ‘keenies’ from across the globe, and can get to know each other informally by chatting before, during and after the webinar.
We also thank the presenters, who give freely of their time and expertise. Where possible, most sessions are recorded and available for viewing later.

SESSION DESCRIPTION
This workshop will look at how language teachers in a Glasgow school engaged learners during school closures. We will talk about our journey in moving to a digital platform (Showbie) and how we sought to engage learners. We will also share practical classroom activities and ideas in the current climate to keep learners motivated.
SESSION PRESENTERS
Louise, Principal Teacher Languages at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary in Glasgow graduated from the University of Glasgow with an Honours degree in French in 2003. As part of her degree she spent a year abroa
d in Poitiers as a Language Assistant for the British Council. Following on from her degree course she continued her studies at the university to become a secondary teacher. As part of her commitment and enthusiasm towards her own professional development and to gain a dual language qualification Louise enrolled for the ‘Continuing Certificate of Education in Spanish’ at the University of Strathclyde which she successfully completed in 2008. Louise has worked in three authorities over the span of her teaching career; East Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and Glasgow. From August 2017 until May 2019 she was seconded to Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT) at the University of Strathclyde where she was responsible for providing support and guidance to secondary schools as they established their strategy for the implementation of the Scottish Government’s 1+2 policy. Louise is also the current Chair of the Scottish Association for Language Teaching where she leads a cross sector committee in organising an annual conference for language teachers across all sectors as well as the online ‘SALT: Six in Sixty’ teach meet which takes place throughout the year.
Morag Skinner, Modern Languages at St Roch’s RC Secondary School, Glasgow. After growing up in the Shetland Islands Morag moved to Glasgow to study French and Spanish at Strathclyde University. A few years later she returned there to complete her PGDE. Morag has spent time working abroad in both France and Spain. Twice she took on the role of Language Assistant through the British Council, first in a secondary school in Murcia, Spain and later in a primary school in Madrid. In France, she gained experience working as a lectrice for the Université François Rabelais in Tours, France. Morag is also on the committee for the Scottish Association for Language Teaching (SALT) where she plays a key role in the planning for the annual conference and online teach meet ‘SALT: Six in Sixty.’
Maria Bourke, Modern Languages teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas RC Secondary, Glasgow. After growing up in Ayr, Maria moved to Glasgow to study French and Hispanic Studies at the University of Glasgow. Maria has spent time working abroad both in Aix en Provence and Gijón in Asturias Spain. There she spent some time doing translation and interpreting at the Gijón Film Festival. Following on from completing her PGDE at Jordanhill College, Maria spent her early career teaching in Renfrewshire Council before embarking on an extended break to raise her sons. Maria is passionate about language learning and is highly motivated to not only share, develop and sustain positive language learning experiences for all but also to support colleagues.

A couple of weeks ago, I finished a 3-month Professional Course here in Latvia about Digital Skills For Distance Learning. The course was very challenging, but I felt way ahead of the other students because of the knowledge I had already gained here. Hats off to you both for doing the things you do and providing a possibility to learn from the best teachers all over the world!
