The use of games in the classroom is not a new concept. Students like competition and teachers love to see how motivations levels raise in their subject. However, gamification goes beyond the application of disconnected game experiences aiming for meaningful learning experiences rooted in independent learning. In this TiLT webinar we will explore the concept of online educational escape rooms as a powerful example of gamification in the classroom, their main features and how to create online escape rooms using interactive websites

Bio:

My name is Carmen Quirós @QuirosCarmen2 and my passion is teaching languages, cultures and values. I have several years’ experience teaching languages and their benefits in primary and secondary education, as well as training new and current generations through educational projects (Erasmus + projects). I have and continue to teach internationally working in Spain, New Zealand and currently United Kingdom.

One of my proudest moments is when I completed my master’s in teaching Spanish as a foreign language and incorporating gamification into my final project by creating an escape-room. I am currently working towards completing my NQT year at King’s Leadership Academy while undergoing further training on how to enhance meaningful experiences in the language classroom through gamification and game design.
